This Week In Science #15

This week in science we worked on many different things. We worked on redoing our marshmallow challenge. We got into the same groups that we were in at the beginning of the year and worked about doing it again. We did the marshmallow challenge twice and each time we had to do something different. We then measured how much each of our sculptures measured and worked on making it bigger and better than it had be the previous times. Lastly we needed to find a way to keep the marshmallows up and to keep then keep it from falling. The step back was that we couldn't talk or use our voices only hand signals or writing down our ideas on paper.
This week in science we learned many different things from how to keep out work from falling to working back together with groups. For my group it was harder to work on our sculpture because we couldn't agree on how to do it. Also we couldn't agree on how to make it big and make it stay up. We worked hard on planning it out but when it was time to get our ideas started it wouldn't work. The first time we did our sculpture  it didn't stay up. When david went to measure it, it fell. The second time our group set out on working on the sculpture  again. We made it halfway to building it and started to realize that the problem with our sculpture was that the middle kept breaking. We fixed the problem and even thought our sculpture ended up not being the tallest, at least it stood up and it didn't fall. We worked on working in silence. Lastly we worked on making our tower bigger because it kept falling no matter what we did.
I really enjoy working in groups. Honestly, sometimes I want to work by myself, because I really don't like it when my grades are affected by what other people do or don't do. I like working together with people because sometimes it splits up the work evenly. I work better  in groups now because you have share your ideas. you have to learn that sometimes other people may have good ideas and you have to hear them out. I would say that working in groups is better now because you know your groups members more that we did at the beginning  of the year.

This week in science #14

This week in science we worked in groups to talk about HIPPO. HIPPO stands for a group of words and its not talking about the animal hippo. the H in hippo stands for habitat lost because when people cut down trees and kill animals habit oso they can build more things. . The I stands for introducing species because sometimes species get messed around. The P stands for pollution which is causes by many different things like too much trash or too many things being throw on the floor and it ends up on our shores and oceans. The second P stands for population growth which happens when there is an over population. Lastly the O stands for over consumption which happens when theres too many people or animals in one place. We made posters about different oil and gas groups.
This week is science I learned about many different things. I leaned more about different gases and oils and how to work together in a group with different people. I learned more about HIPPO which i had never learned about before. Also I learned that many animals live in tight situations because there is over consumption which makes it harder for animals to find food. So the fight for survival is even harder.  I learned more about dangerous animals who might be hurting our environment without knowing. lastly the posters that we did really helped me learned more about what I have no idea even excited before.I learned more about the different environments and how each one affects our planet.

This week in science #13

If I were to cover the tank without plants Im pretty sure the spider would die because the plants are what make air and oxygen so the spider wouldn't have air. There might not even be enough air for the spider to live and survive. The spider wouldn't have food either because the fruit flies need air to live and be healthy as does the spider. The spider would die because there would be no oxygen only him giving off carbon dioxide and thats not enough to live. There would also be no photosynthesis since there are no plants. Also since there were no plants there would be no glucose.

This Week in Science #12

This week in science I learned how to work in groups and decide how our spider might live and survive. We feed them genetic fruit flies, which the spider ate in one day because he must have been hungry. We learned more about what producers and consumers are and what are the place in the food chain. We learned about the effects and what would happen if the animals disappeared or if there was a growth and how it would affect us and the environment. For example if there was a growth in snakes, there would be a change in the mice also because if there are too many snakes they might eat all the mice. If that happens they're going to have to find something else to eat, other than mice. Also there would be a growth in whatever the mice eat because the mice aren't there to eat them. We learned how to use science words and how to describe our tank.
This week in science we started to create our spider observation logs which is just a small book in which we record how our tank looks, or how our spider is doing. We also feed our spiders, and drew how our tank looked in our logs. We learned more about consumers, producers, carnivores and how they effect our environment. We learned about biotic and abiotic, and what it means. We mostly worked on packets all week and have practice quizzes which are going to help us in our regions next year. Lastly we learned more about how our environment affects us.

this week in science #11

This week in science we created spider habitations and ecosystems. we went on a field trip and we went outside to pick out things. We got sticks and twigs. We also collected leaves and grass for the spider to eat and use. We found a few worms and buried them under the dirt. The spider might need air so we put in leaves and grass. The spider might need bugs to eat so we put a few into the soil. Also we know that the spider will need food and water to survive. We also talked about what words mean words like producer and food chains and water and air cycles. We also planned what our tank was going to look like, and also how  our spider was going to live in it.
this week in science we learned about the water cycle and food chains and other things that have to do with our ecosystem. we learned how our ecosystem just affected how we are. we are doing many different things about how the air an trees and animals might affect it. we also learned about how the animals might be affected or how they might affect our ecosystem. we also learned that sometimes the animals might die or disappear  if the ecosystem they live in is changed. we learned that the cellar spiders don't live very long and also that if you aren't careful they might die.
