This Week In Science #15

This week in science we worked on many different things. We worked on redoing our marshmallow challenge. We got into the same groups that we were in at the beginning of the year and worked about doing it again. We did the marshmallow challenge twice and each time we had to do something different. We then measured how much each of our sculptures measured and worked on making it bigger and better than it had be the previous times. Lastly we needed to find a way to keep the marshmallows up and to keep then keep it from falling. The step back was that we couldn't talk or use our voices only hand signals or writing down our ideas on paper.
This week in science we learned many different things from how to keep out work from falling to working back together with groups. For my group it was harder to work on our sculpture because we couldn't agree on how to do it. Also we couldn't agree on how to make it big and make it stay up. We worked hard on planning it out but when it was time to get our ideas started it wouldn't work. The first time we did our sculpture  it didn't stay up. When david went to measure it, it fell. The second time our group set out on working on the sculpture  again. We made it halfway to building it and started to realize that the problem with our sculpture was that the middle kept breaking. We fixed the problem and even thought our sculpture ended up not being the tallest, at least it stood up and it didn't fall. We worked on working in silence. Lastly we worked on making our tower bigger because it kept falling no matter what we did.
I really enjoy working in groups. Honestly, sometimes I want to work by myself, because I really don't like it when my grades are affected by what other people do or don't do. I like working together with people because sometimes it splits up the work evenly. I work better  in groups now because you have share your ideas. you have to learn that sometimes other people may have good ideas and you have to hear them out. I would say that working in groups is better now because you know your groups members more that we did at the beginning  of the year.

This week in science #13

If I were to cover the tank without plants Im pretty sure the spider would die because the plants are what make air and oxygen so the spider wouldn't have air. There might not even be enough air for the spider to live and survive. The spider wouldn't have food either because the fruit flies need air to live and be healthy as does the spider. The spider would die because there would be no oxygen only him giving off carbon dioxide and thats not enough to live. There would also be no photosynthesis since there are no plants. Also since there were no plants there would be no glucose.

This Week in Science #12

This week in science I learned how to work in groups and decide how our spider might live and survive. We feed them genetic fruit flies, which the spider ate in one day because he must have been hungry. We learned more about what producers and consumers are and what are the place in the food chain. We learned about the effects and what would happen if the animals disappeared or if there was a growth and how it would affect us and the environment. For example if there was a growth in snakes, there would be a change in the mice also because if there are too many snakes they might eat all the mice. If that happens they're going to have to find something else to eat, other than mice. Also there would be a growth in whatever the mice eat because the mice aren't there to eat them. We learned how to use science words and how to describe our tank.
This week in science we started to create our spider observation logs which is just a small book in which we record how our tank looks, or how our spider is doing. We also feed our spiders, and drew how our tank looked in our logs. We learned more about consumers, producers, carnivores and how they effect our environment. We learned about biotic and abiotic, and what it means. We mostly worked on packets all week and have practice quizzes which are going to help us in our regions next year. Lastly we learned more about how our environment affects us.

this week in science #11

This week in science we created spider habitations and ecosystems. we went on a field trip and we went outside to pick out things. We got sticks and twigs. We also collected leaves and grass for the spider to eat and use. We found a few worms and buried them under the dirt. The spider might need air so we put in leaves and grass. The spider might need bugs to eat so we put a few into the soil. Also we know that the spider will need food and water to survive. We also talked about what words mean words like producer and food chains and water and air cycles. We also planned what our tank was going to look like, and also how  our spider was going to live in it.
this week in science we learned about the water cycle and food chains and other things that have to do with our ecosystem. we learned how our ecosystem just affected how we are. we are doing many different things about how the air an trees and animals might affect it. we also learned about how the animals might be affected or how they might affect our ecosystem. we also learned that sometimes the animals might die or disappear  if the ecosystem they live in is changed. we learned that the cellar spiders don't live very long and also that if you aren't careful they might die.

This week in science #10

These last few  weeks we have have been working on making an human impact ad  campaign . My group is water and we are designing an ad that shows the human affects on water and about how it's disappearing. We worked with the human impacts institute to  makes ad campaigns. we also made surveys and went outside to ask strangers about there effects on the environment. We also worked together in groups and decide on what ideas to use for our ads. We made pictures and a catchy slogan that people will understand from just looking at the ad. We had  to make our own ideas and then mix them together. Finally we decided that our slogan was going to be " water you going to do when its gone?".  Another thing we did in science was we tested the hardness of water from 3 different places like water from Brooklyn, water from the school water fountain and water from the class fish tank.  We tested the tubes of water and used color to find out things about the water. We got into groups water, energy, waste and transportation.
We learned from our surveys that most people don't care about the environment or recycling. We also learned that most people are rude...and don't want to answer your questions. From our surveys we learned that it was difficult to make up questions to ask strangers because you don't know these people so the questions can't be to private. Doing our own surveys we learned how much water we used and how it affect our environment. We worked on different time periods for the cups years like 1997, 2007, 2017, 2027. We used different tools from pens to markers to sharpies trying to make our final design perfect. Also we learned as a group that some ideas aren't as cool as think they are or they are too difficult to draw. We learned  to work together as a group and we learned to work hard and that everyone has to do their fair share of work. We learned how to manage time and work out problems without arguing.

human impact campain

If we don't take care of our water supply its going to disappear and we are going to be left with nothing.

This week in science #9

This week and science we did another dissection. We cut up another animal that was different from last week. Me and my partner cut up a perch which looked different than what I thought it was going to look like. we took pictures of the animal and my other partners cut up a skate. I cut up the perch which was different than other animal we dissected which was a crab fish. Also we learned how to use the knife and scissors properly. We had to cut open our perch and label parts of it so we could make pictures. Lastly we were able to cut up the perch and just look at the parts which we wanted to see.
I learned that the inside of the perch is much more different than what I thought  it would look like. There  was a liver and it had a very different inner body than I thought it would have. I also learned how to work with others in my group and learn to share the equipment while working. also there was a different kind of work to be done so me and my partner had to do many different things.
The two different animals which were dissected at our table were the skate and the perch. The differences between these animals were that they had different ways of living and evolving to their environment. The skate was long and big while the perch was small. The perch had scales and the skate felt rubbery and fake. Another similarity was that the animals are both sea water animals. A difference is that the animals both are different sizes, and while the perch has no teeth the skate had a row of sharp teeth. Lastly another difference is that the skate had a long tail while the perch has a small tail which helps them swim around.

This week in science #8

Me and my partner dissected a craw fish. The craw fish has many different sections. It has many legs and a mouth with many different looking antennas. It has claws and many different looking parts. it must have these features because it needs to adapt to its environment in the ocean. We cut the craw fish from posterior to anterior, which is head to tail. The lungs of the craw fish was proximately in the same place where the heart should be but on the right side.
I learned many things from this dissection. I learned that the liver of a craw fish is yellow which I didn't know before because I thought that it was the same color as a human beings. I also learned that in the tail of a craw fish there is meat. I thought that there was just empty shell but I was wrong. Some questions I have are why is the liver yellow? Also where is the heart ? I didn't see one when me and my partner Andy dissected it . There was more legs that I expected the craw fish to have which was weird becuase I thought it couldnt have more than 4 or 6 legs but it had about 10 or 12 legs all together. The claws were almost different sizes and I didn't know that. I thought that the claws were all one side. I think that this lesson about the dissection is similar to the lesson about the rockets because we had to take apart a certain thing and label parts.

science and I # 5

This week we in science I learned about animal behaviors. I learned about rockets and the launchers and the different animal behavior. We learned a lot about how different animals react to different things. We watched animals in different videos and i learned that animals might act different that you think. We learned a lot about how to make our conclusion better and have more detail than before. We finished our rocket project and how to make it better.
This week in science we did many things. We finished our rocket investigations and edited our conclusions. We investigated the crickets putting them in categories like things we notice , things we observed , things we are wondering and drawing them. we have to do our cover page this weekend end for our second unit. Lastly we had actual crickets with us and did a few drawings and different things with  the crickets.

Science and I #4

This week in science I did  a lot of new things on how to do a plant investigation. I was able to work with a different group of people and we worked on a new plant investigation. We worked on the graph and data table  . We also did a a lot of writing about our plants, how much they grew , how much water we gave it and what it looked like etc. We also did a lot of work making our plant investigations  making them better than the first one that we did. I did a lot of work on a project we had to do with the effect of light on plant growth doing the mission challenge.

This week in science  learned a lot about plants and the effect of light , water , soil etc.I learned how to do a graph and table for out plant investigation write up . I learned a lot about our plant investigation and how to make it better. I learned about the parts of a plant investigation and the people in our group and who does what.

this week in science #3

this week in science I learned more about independent and dependent variables. I  learned a lot about how to make a clear procedure and how to learn to do the "if...then...because..." format . I learned about our new plant investagation with our new groups. my group each morning had to get our plants measure them and then add more water and do the same thing everyday or so for a week. i learned about how the variables can change and how everything has to be very clear.

this week i science we worked on our plant investagation everyday and measured them . we learned aot about many things such as the independent . we learned alot about alot of differnet things.

This Week In Science #2

This week in science we  studied more about plants. we learned about the second plant investigation that we are going to be working with different  groups. we learned about what variables we used and what we would change. we talked about the plant that we would be using which is the brassica rapa . we did research on the plant online and we looked up facts about many different things like where its from , who uses it , the life span , how long it lives etc. also we got into groups and planted our own new seeds which kicked of our second plant investagation . we also learned more about variables and other things.we also did an experiment with poppers and wrote  down the things we noticed.
This week in science we learned more variables. we learned more about plants and how they grow and how the independent and dependent variables affected the plant growth and the way they are. we also  learned a little bit more about plants . we learned different  things this week and we actually did something fun with week with the poppers and the plant groups. we also learned more about the different variables and the growth

science

science and i have been so and so over the last couple of years. it was funner when i was younger because you didn't have to take so many notes or pay to much attention just do the experiment. last year science i didn't really like it a lot because we had to do too much work. when i was younger we had to just do the experiments and the teacher would say somethings and then you would move on. in high school and in middle school you actually have to pay attention or you wont know what is happening or you will be lost.
