This week in science #9

This week and science we did another dissection. We cut up another animal that was different from last week. Me and my partner cut up a perch which looked different than what I thought it was going to look like. we took pictures of the animal and my other partners cut up a skate. I cut up the perch which was different than other animal we dissected which was a crab fish. Also we learned how to use the knife and scissors properly. We had to cut open our perch and label parts of it so we could make pictures. Lastly we were able to cut up the perch and just look at the parts which we wanted to see.
I learned that the inside of the perch is much more different than what I thought  it would look like. There  was a liver and it had a very different inner body than I thought it would have. I also learned how to work with others in my group and learn to share the equipment while working. also there was a different kind of work to be done so me and my partner had to do many different things.
The two different animals which were dissected at our table were the skate and the perch. The differences between these animals were that they had different ways of living and evolving to their environment. The skate was long and big while the perch was small. The perch had scales and the skate felt rubbery and fake. Another similarity was that the animals are both sea water animals. A difference is that the animals both are different sizes, and while the perch has no teeth the skate had a row of sharp teeth. Lastly another difference is that the skate had a long tail while the perch has a small tail which helps them swim around.

This week in science #8

Me and my partner dissected a craw fish. The craw fish has many different sections. It has many legs and a mouth with many different looking antennas. It has claws and many different looking parts. it must have these features because it needs to adapt to its environment in the ocean. We cut the craw fish from posterior to anterior, which is head to tail. The lungs of the craw fish was proximately in the same place where the heart should be but on the right side.
I learned many things from this dissection. I learned that the liver of a craw fish is yellow which I didn't know before because I thought that it was the same color as a human beings. I also learned that in the tail of a craw fish there is meat. I thought that there was just empty shell but I was wrong. Some questions I have are why is the liver yellow? Also where is the heart ? I didn't see one when me and my partner Andy dissected it . There was more legs that I expected the craw fish to have which was weird becuase I thought it couldnt have more than 4 or 6 legs but it had about 10 or 12 legs all together. The claws were almost different sizes and I didn't know that. I thought that the claws were all one side. I think that this lesson about the dissection is similar to the lesson about the rockets because we had to take apart a certain thing and label parts.

this week in science #7

This week in science we worked on our project. From this project I learned a lot about working together as a group and about our biome and the animals that live there. I learned to do  my share of work with a group of people and help people when they  needed it. I'm still confused about having to draw the animals by hand because i feel like it would have been nicer to draw them digitally.
What we did in this project was we research a place , picked animals from a place and evolved the animal so that it could survive in a different climate ( because of global warming the place you choose is now different than it was before ). you had to change what the animal ate, how the animal looked, what is its prey etc. you had to draw before and after pictures about the animal. lastly you had to present it in a PowerPoint.

classification challenge

This is an emerald shiner. It can grow to 3.5 inches in length. It is mostly found in oceans across north America from Canada to the gulf of Mexico. It feeds on small insects like zoo plankton. It is mostly used as bait fish . Its family includes the deuterostomas fish, the xenoturbellida fish  , and the craniates fish. It is not a rodent. It is similar to its family because they have similar skin colors and they all are water fish. They are different because some of the  family lives in oceans while the emerald shiner lives in lakes and ponds. It doesnt have a back bone it just has fins and a tails and of course a fish body.

cricket investigation

Do crickets prefer light or dark environments? My hypothesis is that I think that they would prefer the light environments because in the dark they can't see where they are going or where the other crickets are. I  also think that they might like the light environment because they can see the other crickets and things also they will see the food.
crickets like food like seeds, meat, fungi, plant decay, and grass so maybe if we put those foods in a jar with them they will go to the light side because they can see the food. they like sunlight so maybe they will like light because it will keep them warm. they might go to the light becuase in the dark they might just fall asleep or not move.

science and I # 5

This week we in science I learned about animal behaviors. I learned about rockets and the launchers and the different animal behavior. We learned a lot about how different animals react to different things. We watched animals in different videos and i learned that animals might act different that you think. We learned a lot about how to make our conclusion better and have more detail than before. We finished our rocket project and how to make it better.
This week in science we did many things. We finished our rocket investigations and edited our conclusions. We investigated the crickets putting them in categories like things we notice , things we observed , things we are wondering and drawing them. we have to do our cover page this weekend end for our second unit. Lastly we had actual crickets with us and did a few drawings and different things with  the crickets.

Science and I #4

This week in science I did  a lot of new things on how to do a plant investigation. I was able to work with a different group of people and we worked on a new plant investigation. We worked on the graph and data table  . We also did a a lot of writing about our plants, how much they grew , how much water we gave it and what it looked like etc. We also did a lot of work making our plant investigations  making them better than the first one that we did. I did a lot of work on a project we had to do with the effect of light on plant growth doing the mission challenge.

This week in science  learned a lot about plants and the effect of light , water , soil etc.I learned how to do a graph and table for out plant investigation write up . I learned a lot about our plant investigation and how to make it better. I learned about the parts of a plant investigation and the people in our group and who does what.
